What to Expect

We Certainly Hope You Will Visit Us

We have a beautiful church. It is  the place where we come to meet with our Lord and commune with Him. We would be so glad to have you join us, but there has to be questions going through your mind.

WHAT ARE THE WORSHIP SERVICES LIKE?

Every church has its own style of worship. There is a lot of history and a lot of meaning behind our worship services, but it may take a few Sundays to become accustomed to them. Check out our Worship page for more information about our services.

HOW SHOULD I DRESS?

Like most people, our members try to make their worship time at church a special time.  This is often reflected in the way they dress.  Still, the Bible presents no dress code, except for simple decency and Christian humility.  One person may dress casually and rejoice that our gracious Lord accepts us as we are, while another may dress to reflect the awe and reverence we have for our Savior King.  On any Sunday at our church you may see running shoes and heels, jeans and suits, open collars and ties.

CAN I BRING MY KIDS?

Please do!  We encourage parents of young children to attend worship services with their children so that the entire family worships together. This begins the good habits of attending worship services at an early age.  It is not at all uncommon to hear children’s cries during the hymns, lessons, and sermon.  If, however, you feel that your little one needs some personal attention, you may make use of a nursery area in the church basement.  Ask an usher to direct you there.

WILL I BE EXPECTED TO GIVE AN OFFERING?

Our ushers pass an offering plate during the service (following the sermon) so that our worship may include bringing gifts to God.  Many of our members use offering envelopes to keep their gifts a private matter known only to the Lord.  Their offerings reflect the Bible’s teaching that all we have is a gift from God, and one way we worship him and show our love to him is to give a portion of those gifts back to him.  These offerings support our home and world missions, the training of future pastors and teachers, and the operations of our congregation.  As our guest, we do not expect you to contribute an offering, nor do we want to pressure you into doing so, but you are welcome to give if you desire.

We hope that this website will ease your mind before making a visit to First Evan, but if you have a question, please ask someone for help. Don’t hesitate to say, “I am new.  What is this about?” Some of our members have around for many, many years. Others are new just like you are. Either way, someone will be happy to help you out and answer your questions.  No one will force you to speak in public or to become a member or to join anything.  We’re just happy to have you as our guest.

Please check out our Education, Fellowship, and Outreach pages to see what First Evan offers and provides. Click the Media link on the top menu to find past sermons. Finally, don’t hesitate to contact us with any question.

Is there Music and Singing?

The Lutheran Church is known as the singing Church. We love our hymns and organ. Don’t be surprised if there when there is a guitar, tambourine, flute or trumpet. While we are not wild by any stretch of the imagination, we Love to make a joyful noise unto the Lord!
